Tina-Pinkney-accounting-professional

Tina Guilfoyle, Manager of Pinkney Tax, has worked here since our first year in 2002, and has over twenty years experience in tax and accounting. After graduating from the College of the Atlantic with a three year Business Management-Accounting program, she went to work in St John’s, moving to Fort Mc Murray in 1993. She is married to Terry, and they have two children attending Father Mercredi Community High School.

One of Tina’s major responsibilities is quality control. During our busy tax season she must approve and then NETFILE every tax return we process. Every day she is in the office during the tax season, she meets with each tax consultant reviewing their most challenging files, and answering their questions. The fact that everyone of our tax consultants has years of experience makes this part of her job a little bit easier.

Thus our motto: “We hire only experienced tax consultants, we make them better and then we do everything we can to retain them.”

Pinkney-tax-bookkeeping-professionalWanda Blackwood was born and raised in Cornerbrook NL, where she completed a one year post-secondary program in Business Procedures. Upon graduation she worked with a financial company and then Cooperator’s Insurance in Cornerbrook. Having done some income tax while at Cooperator’s, she pursued this further full time in 1987 while off raising her first of three daughters. In 1997 Wanda returned to the Cooperator’s but retained her growing income tax business as a sideline until 2009, when she made the move to Pinkney Tax here in Fort McMurray.

While Wanda is here in Fort McMurray her husband Karl remains working in Cornerbrook, as do two of her married daughters, one having Wanda and Karl’s first two grandchildren. Wanda’s third daughter now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and one baby. During the summer the family regularly gathers at their cottage in the Cornerbrook area.

Wanda usually returns in early February and assists with the operation of Pinkney Financial during the busy RRSP season, before the tax season starts.

reception-bookkeeping-supportCathy Boland is the sister of Wanda Blackwood and was also born and raised in Cornerbrook, NL. Cathy worked as a doctor’s receptionist in Cornerbrook for 27 years, before joining Wanda in Fort McMurray for the tax season, in 2009. Unfortunately at that time Pinkney Tax did not need a receptionist but Cathy was able to get started as head receptionist at the Fort McMurray branch of a national tax company.  There she did a variety of jobs which after three years provided her with the appropriate training to make the move up to Pinkney Tax when our position of Receptionist opened.

In addition to serving long hours as receptionist, Cathy is in charge of all of our filing and caretaking, supporting our bookkeepers as well as sometimes assisting Tina our Manager. Some might call her our head cook and bottlewasher, or Wonder Woman, as she does it all.

When Cathy is here you can always count on a big smile and a true Newfoundland greeting when you come through our door.

Pinkney-tax-bookkeeping-staffSadie Docherty and the Pinkney family go back many years as Ryan was an elementary school friend of her son, and Wayne was the Principal of a school one of her sons attended. Sadie has worked in income tax almost and bookkeeping all of her life, and has many clients who come in and ask for her every year.

It just seemed natural that when we were opening a Income Tax business that we would ask Sadie to join us, she made the move and she has been with us since the start in 2002.

Sadie occasionally talks of retirement but then says she would miss the fun and excitement of the all out energy required to get through the tax season. In addition she would miss her colleagues, all of whom she regards as good friends, and she particularly enjoys Tina’s style of leadership.

Pinkney-tax-bookkeeping-professional“Roz” Rosalind Oram, her husband Duane, and two daughters moved to Fort McMurray in 2009, from Glovertown NL, where she had spent her last ten years working in an income tax and accounting business. Her first job upon arriving in Fort McMurray was here at Pinkney Tax Services, where she was hired full time bookkeeper to deal with income tax and bookkeeping and accounting matters. Roz tells us she plans on being here until retirement, which makes us very happy.

Roz’s work time outside the tax season is largely spent on assisting clients who are being reviewed by Canada Revenue Agency. This is a free service which we offer to all clients who are undergoing a partial or full review of their tax submission, and which is normally very much appreciated by the client. In addition Roz assists Tina our Manager as needed, as well as new clients who come in with tax problems to be straightened out, and doing  tax returns for new walk in clients.

We look forward to working with Roz for many years to come. Her bouncy personality is definitely a big plus for our work environment.
