Deceased Taxpayer or Terminal Tax Returns

Pinkney Tax Services regularly completes terminal tax returns, working with the executor of the taxpayer’s will. If a taxpayer dies from January 1 to October 31, the tax return is due by April 30 of the following year. If however the taxpayer died November 1 to December 31, the tax return is not due until six months after the death.

There is much more detail involved in a terminal tax return than a normal return, and we work closely with the Executor and CRA to ensure that this final return is done accurately and on time. Such returns are usually closely scrutinized by CRA. If you are involved in having a terminal tax return prepared, we suggest that you make an appointment to see Tina, our Manager, to review the situation and discuss a strategy. Tina will then outline the procedures, and assign the preparation to one of our permanent staff who will keep her up to date on their progress.
